ABOUT ME

Felicia Reed is a Nationally Certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), with over 15 years of experience across educational, religious, Video Relay Service (VRS), and community settings. She is committed to providing excellent interpreting and educational services rooted in cultural competence, advocacy, and access.

She also holds the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) credential administered through Boys Town National Research Hospital, demonstrating competence in educational interpreting settings. Her work spans K-12, postsecondary, faith-based, and community environments.

A Nashville, Tennessee native, Felicia has been interpreting professionally since 2008. Her passion for serving the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community extends beyond interpretation as she is deeply committed to advocacy, access, and bridging communication gaps to ensure equity for all. This commitment led her to establish Equivalent Communications in 2021.

Felicia's journey into ASL began at the young age of seven, when her Deaf next-door neighbor, Donna, introduced her to sign language after Felicia curiously asked about her communication style. Donna welcomed Felicia into her home and explained hearing aids and the TTY machine used to communicate with the hearing world. Around the same time, Felicia discovered that her mother owned a sign language book and she brought it over daily to continue learning and practicing with Donna. What began as childhood curiosity soon became a lifelong calling.

She holds an Associate Degree in American Sign Language from Nashville State Community College, a Bachelor's Degree in Management of Human Relations from Trevecca Nazarene University, and a Master of Arts in Teaching Special Education from Liberty University. She is a member of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and has successfully completed the Improving Rural Interpreter Skills (IRIS) program. To maintain excellence in her practice, Felicia regularly participates in workshops, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
Felicia credits her success to Donna's early influence, the consistent support of her family, and the entrepreneurial legacy modeled by her father, whose work ethic continues to inspire her professional journey.
